Daabon's Compliance with EUDR in Palm Oil Production

20 Nov 2023

As Daabon, we have always followed a zero deforestation policy and sustainably care for the protection of Colombia's unique nature and the preservation of plants and biodiversity.

Daabon is dedicated to adhering to the highest environmental and ethical standards in our operations, with a strong focus on sustainable palm oil production. Daabon's Commitment to Sustainability: Daabon recognizes the critical importance of addressing deforestation, environmental degradation, and social concerns associated with palm oil production. As a responsible and environmentally conscious company, we have developed and implemented a comprehensive sustainability framework that aligns with the EU's efforts to combat deforestation. Key Compliance Initiatives:

1. Policy: Our sustainability policy has established a conversion threshold for 2011 and 2004 for deforestation, this is in line with the fundamentals of the RSPO (definition of deforestation) and adherence to the organization.

2. Traceability and Supply Chain Control: Daabon has established a robust traceability system to monitor our palm oil supply chain. We ensure that our products do not contribute to illegal deforestation, and we actively collaborate with suppliers and stakeholders to maintain transparency throughout the supply chain. In this regard, our supply base (third-party growers, both mid-sized and small holders and own plantations) information is currently published and updated yearly according to agricultural dynamics in the region (shapefiles, evaluations on NDPE).This allows for full transparency and scrutiny from our customers. Please see reports on our performance at: https://daabon.com/es/sustainability_procedures

3. No-Deforestation Commitment: We maintain a strict "No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation"(NDPE) policy, which encompasses not only our own operations but also those of our suppliers. We have implemented a responsible sourcing strategy to ensure that our palm oil is sourced from areas that have not been deforested. To ensure the highest conformity and quality of information,we have our own in-house specialist that monitors changes in land use and fire from our satellite subscription. This applies for monitoring the current base supply and the possible inclusion of areas.

4. Sustainable Practices: Daabon actively promotes sustainable palm oil cultivation practices, which include adopting best management practices, protecting, and monitoring High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon Stock (HCS) areas, and respecting the rights of local communitiesand indigenous peoples via a third-party provider (Proforest).

5. Certification and Verification: We have sought certification from recognized sustainability standards such as the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), Regenerative Organic Agriculture (ROC) and Fairtrade USA (FT) which reflect our commitment to sustainable palm oil production. Furthermore, Daabon engages in regular third-party audits and verification processes to ensure compliance and full inclusion of our supply base to the certifications that the company currently holds.

6. Transparency and Collaboration: Daabon believes in open and constructive dialogue with industry partners, NGOs, and regulatory authorities. We are dedicated to working collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in our sustainability practices and ensure our compliance with EU deforestation laws. We invite our customers to open the dialogue to a constructive discussion on the previous steps before legislation is enforced.

7. Continuous Improvement: We acknowledge that the journey toward sustainable palm oil production is ongoing, and Daabon is committed to continuous improvement. We are investing in research, innovation, and sustainable practices to reduce our environmental footprint further and contribute positively to the communities and ecosystems where we operate.

Daabon takes its responsibilities regarding EU deforestation laws on palm oil production very seriously. We are fully committed to compliance with these laws and are unwavering in our dedication to sustainability, responsible sourcing, and protecting our planet's vital ecosystems. We are currently in the discussion group that the RSPO has set up, meeting bi-monthly, to understand the mechanism that the EU will adopt to comply.

We appreciate the opportunity to clarify our commitment and compliance with EU deforestation laws. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any further inquiries or require additional information.
